    Close up on insects

Ahh, it's the weekends again. Usually people don't do much on that day, maybe laze around, go to zoos, wash their car... but instead, i chose to go to a jungle and shoot insects instead. it was full of mossies, and it was steaming hot. but then again... the mad mad things you'd do for photography. Macro shots were never a forte of mine, so i took this opportunity to polish up on whatever i lacked in this field of photography. first thing you need is long pants. as i learnt that day that insect repellents do keep the mossies away, but the other insects can smell you too. so long pants is a must. and lastly, patience and good muscle control is a must, as the insects move away if they see sudden movement. move in too quick and the fly away. this is not easy when your gear weighs a ton, try duckwalk in slow motion with gear as heavy as 3kg in your hand and to make things worse, the mossies relentlessly pecking away on your skin. well, to cut story short. it was a bit harder than i thought. Seeing these insects in such close distance is an eye opener. they really need a shave. ha!

Shot with flash mistakenly placed on the ground but giving it a diffused and different lighting effect... interesting, might exploit more on this technique next time...

Well, i must emphasize again, it wasn't easy to get these shots. my lens was like 2-3 inches away from the subject. so, my fullest respect to the macro shooters out there. till then, cheerios!
