    This is what you get...

for smoking for the past 40 years...

yes, a cut right through the chest, and in the process, your heart will be stopped for a moment while they attach a vein, from your legs cut from the calf.

My father was among the lucky ones to leave the ICU the very next day after the op. and that is because he is healthy and strong as he does exercises almost every other day.

So kids, before you start puffing, make sure you have saved enough for this very day. each bypass on each vein costs about 25k. my father had 3. so that would set you about 75k. and that doesn't include how much you have to pay for each day you stayed in the hospital. and also there's also the pre diagnosis that has been done which includes stuffing a tube through your thighs and heading to your heart. oh yeah you also have to save up for diagnosis too. quite a painful and expensive vice if you asked me.

it was quite a hectic weekend for me. i had to rush back from bintulu on friday to IJN and then back to bintulu today. ahh, time does pass even when you are not really enjoying it. but am glad that my father is doing rather well...

oh well, it's back to bintulu again, goodbye Seremban, and hello Bintulu~!

My dad's heading for open heart surgery today

Yeah, you heard it right, years of smoking has caused his blood vessels in his heart blocked, he is heading for a open heart surgery anytime now. and here i am stuck in bintulu. He is currently seeking treatment in IJN, i hope he is ok. wish him luck guys!

    Mooncake Festival ala Bintulu Style

Have been here in Bintulu for about 2 weeks, and i really never had the time to do a proper shoot out with my camera. I then got in touch with "song", song is a guy from Bintulu which i have known him through the net. Like any other Bintuliulians, he is friendly and generous. he invited me to go shoot some pictures in bintulu on how they celebrate this festival. Basically it's about lighting up lanterns and eating mooncakes. and of course, it's a hit with the children as that's the only time that they can play with fire. The people here are great, and not because they gave me beer that night, (my favourite) it's how friendly they are. try smiling to the locals here, and they will smile back at you warmly. you try that in KL, i am sure the cute lady would have got all her defenses up. and during that festival, alot of families had some sort of picnic and barbecue session. and they offered food and drinks (beer) to passerby's. tell me how cool is that? and of course i managed to get a few shots before i got drunk. hehe...

this pic below is a classic case of white balance gone wrong... but it does give out a funky colour to it... heh...

    happy mooncake festival folks!

I will be taking a short break...

Well, not really a short break, only that due to the lack of time and transport, i have yet to find my means of showing you pictures. Will try to update my blog when i have the chance, till then, it's me back to work and figuring why they put so much msg on their food.

    True Colours

Here's something strange, i missed my flight the other day due to some reason which i'd rather keep to myself. I was feeling a bit down that day, and coincidently my grandma asked me to drop by to Rembau as she had prepared dinner for me. So i thought to myself, heck, why not? Much to my delight i came across a festival and with the festival comes a chinese opera... and being me, i went to backstage of course. the good thing about small towns are that everybody will think you're from the press if you happen to be holding a big camera, a big camera with a big flash attached makes one heck of an impression.

Ahh, the Chinese Opera. I had the opportunity to interview a member of the troupe, and he told me it was rather a shame to see that the trade is slowly dying. as the younger generation don't really understand what's been shown on stage. It's even harder to understand when you don't even know much on chinese history. C'mon, tell me, can you even name me 5 dynasties? I was actually quite ashamed as i too couldn't even name 3. and i have no one to blame other than myself. But you can see the passion in him when he's talking about this. He told me that it would be nice to show the true colours of this tradition. In fact, what's surprising is some of the memebrs here are doing it part-time. it's something like their hobby. Even more surprising is when he told me that one of the members are english educated where he has no idea at all of what he was acting about when he first joined them! well, i must hand it to them for keeping the the flame alive. for that they have my fullest respect.

And here, i present to you, the people, showing off their true colours...

    All my bags are packed

Here's a few random updates on me, (*snort, as if anyone wants to know about me...)

went a bit loco and developed one of my pictures, into 3' X 4', no i am not kidding, it's 3 feet by 4 feet

some kiasu people said i am mad to print out a poster in black and white, but in the name of art, and insanity and losing my brains... i did it anyway. and oh yeah, my camera is a 6 megapixel camera, and it had very minimal detail loss in this size. not bad for a D50

This is my nephew, kids do grow up fast... he is a bundle of energy, fast shutter speed is required to freeze him in one place...

and finally... all my bags are packed, i am heading to bintulu tomorrow, hope i have the opportunity to shoot interesting stuff, till then take care and godspeed...

    No Chimping Contest

Took part on a photography contest today, the contest objective was for us to try to go back into the olden days where digital cameras and photoshop don't exist... you are given 36 shots (similar to a roll of film) and you are not allowed to see the results and delete the pictures after you have shot them. so here's the real challenge, you won't know if your pictures will be underexposed or overexposed. most digital camera users won't even care about shutter speed and aperture, if it doesn't come out right then you shoot it again to get it right. even if you got it right more or less, there's always photoshop to bail you out in these tricky situations. but what about a few decades ago where you only shoot in film? if you got it wrong means you got it wrong, the moment is by then far gone. let's not even go to those full manual cameras, where you do the exposure math yourself, luckily we're allowed to use the semi automatic modes where the camera does most of the calculation for you and leave the other stuff for you to guess. but as we all know all digital cameras have their limitations and they will never get the exposure quite right, so that part, is completely up to you to guess.

the experience was like shooting torpedoes in a submarine, you are the crew and you load them and shoot but you won't really know what you're shooting at. and to make matters worse you only have limited number of  torpedoes. then you pray real hard that you got that shot. the result? most of my pictures came out with considerable results but some are way too bad, mostly overblown.

here's a few pictures, unedited only resized. and yeah, these pictures were shot at lake gardens. the composition is not that great but it will do...

I am rubber and you are glue

It was a sunday, it was cloudy a cloudy sunday, took me quite an effort to unglue myself from my bed. and since, most of my photography buddies weren't free to join me in my weekly photography outings, i have decided to do shoot alone. this time it is somewhere closer to my home. these are shots taken from my usual route to work, i usually drive through a rubber plantation and i can tell you this, just by looking at their job, you know that you are fortunate that you're an office dweller. i manage to have a chat with a couple, and i think the woman is due anytime soon... but still she has to tap rubber, how tough is that?

    Pet? What pet are you?

You Would Be a Pet Bird
You're intelligent and witty, yet surprisingly low maintenance. You charm people easily, and they usually love you a lot more than you love them. You resent anyone who tries to own or control you. You refuse to be fenced in. Why you would make a great pet: You're very smart and entertaining Why you would make a bad pet: You're not interested in being anyone's pet! What you would love about being a bird: Flying, obviously What you would hate about being a bird: Being caged
